Dr. Basil Springer, Project Manager Barbados Business Enterprise Corp., Barbados Business Entrepreneur

Dr. Basil SpringerDr. Basil G. F. Springer is a Barbadian who trained as a mathematician, statistician and operations research scientist. He graduated with a BSC. In Mathematics from UWI, Mona and a Masters in Statistics from University College of Wales, Aberystwyth and was awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship to pursue his PhD at University of London in statistics and operations research. He was awarded a Diploma of the imperial College of Science and Technology, London. Dr Springer practised as a Biometrician in the Faculty of Agriculture, UWI, Trinidad; the Caribbean Community Secretariat; Food & Agriculture Organization; and the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute, between 1968 and 1977. Dr. Springer leads the charge in redefining the entrepreneurship landscape in Barbados through BBEL initiatives. He coordinates all the efforts of the Executive Team.

Dr. Springer was a Management Consulting pioneer (1977) in Barbados and established Systems Caribbean Limited which was sold, in 2000, to local interests as the largest indigenous business development consulting firm in the Caribbean. Dr. Springer has also served as Chairman of the Barbados Marketing Corporation (1981 to 1984).

He was Chairman of the Barbados National Productivity Council from 1996 to 2001 and Deputy Chairman of the Barbados National Bank (1994 to 2003) as well as a member of other public and private sector boards.

A man of many talents, he was Co-Executive Producer of “Hit for Six” a cricket themed full length feature film produced by the Barbadian company Blue Waters Productions Inc. which had its world première in April 2007. He was founding President of the Barbados Cancer Society, serving over the period 1980-2000 and on the Council until 2006. He is a regular public speaker, a weekly newspaper columnist (since 1993) and a Rotarian.

Dr. Springer was Chairman of the Future Centre Trust, a Barbadian sustainable development organization (1995 to July 2009). He has been involved in CMEx ( since its inception in 2001. Jeremy Stephen, Financial and Business Advisor

Jeremy StephenJeremy Stephen is a business and financial consultant who assists business entities with their business and financial planning strategies through his company, Damoola Inc. A former economist at the Central Bank of Barbados, he graduated with a BSc. Economics (First Class Honours) from UWI Cave Hill where he received the prestigious Charles M. Kennedy Prize for academic excellence in Economics. He completed his MSc. Finance degree from Imperial College Business School in 2007.

Thereafter, he founded Damoola Inc. in January 2009 with the intention of providing his services to funding agencies, financial companies and subcontracted regional projects from firms such as CBET Inc, BBEL and the CSME. Damoola Inc is primarily held as Mr. Stephen’s holding company for his diverse business interests ranging from active and passive asset and portfolio management and investment to quantitative and qualitative research.

His specialisation is in financial and economic modelling along with financial and business advisory services. These skills were honed during his stints at the Central Bank of Barbados - where he was responsible for maintaining the Bank’s economic and financial forecasting model - and his highly quantitative Master’s programme at Imperial College London. He is also a part-time tutor at UWI Cave Hill and stands ready to participate in economic, business and financial seminars and conferences.

As a part of the BBEC management team, Jeremy’s day-to-day responsibilities include internal corporate advisory, management of the internal and external financial monitoring system, financial due diligence, and fund raising.
