Update from Bimventures Project Manager, Dr. Basil Springer

*Changes To Our Road Map*

Our interactions with innovative businesses over the last year in both the Seed Capital Fund and Venture Capital Fund have led to us focusing more on quality as it relates to governance, marketing, finance, etc. - so as to inculcate a zero defects culture rather than focus on six new businesses every two months. It is expected that this change in strategy will not necessarily reduce the level of GDP contribution over 5 years but may in fact enhance such returns.

*Milestones and breakthroughs*

So far we have converted 6 projects from the pipeline to projects that have been approved for venture capital by our venture capital board. These projects are:

Manipura Inc.
Caribbean Streaming Network Inc. (CSN)
EeZee Kricket Inc.
Went Caribbean Inc.
Movementunes Inc.
CaribbeanTales Worldwide Distribution Inc.

We observed that there is no shortage of entrepreneurs and most of our entrepreneurs are in the creative industries - art, fashion, film, music. To date we have been able to garner a cadre of shepherds who, together with business advisors, have been able to undertake the shepherding process to mitigate the risk of business failure. We have also aroused some interest from select investors to invest in the Venture Capital Fund.

BARBADOS ENTREPRENEURS' VENTURE CAPITAL FUND LAUNCHES

Tomorrow is a big day for us at BBEL; tomorrow we officially launch the Barbados Entrepreneurs’ Venture Capital Fund under the patronage of Prime Minister of Barbados, Hon David Thompson.

We intend to add new flavour to the investment market in Barbados, with our new twist to venture capital financing. Our fund is an essential component of the CBET Shepherding Model™ which was designed by Barbadian businessman and BBEL Project Manager, Dr. Basil Springer.

The Model comprises three elements
  • An entrepreneur with an idea that has the “DNA of an elephant” i.e. an idea with the potential for global expansion;
  • Timely cash advances for business and implementation plan development as well as quick response to investment requests; and
  • A shepherd (business mentor), supported by a team of business advisors, to help the entrepreneur nurture the business idea into a successful reality.
Essentially the CBET Shepherding Model™ is designed to mitigate the risk of business failure and launch countries into a new era of economic development, one successful business after another.

The launch will take place at the George Washington House at 7.00 pm and we’ll be showcasing our six pilot projects currently being considered for venture capital funding.

After the launch we’ll have lots of photos and a full-length video available so be sure to look out for the links. It should be a pretty amazing night!
